Have you signed up for World Origami Days yet?

This year is honoring the late Toshikazu Kawasaki. On November 5, day 13 of 19, Linda will teach a Tribute Fold: Hug for Kawasaki. This design combines Kawasaki’s One Minute Rose with the classic crane. The crane’s wings wrap around the rose in a ‘hug’, where the connections to the rose are. It is one piece of paper, with a single cut made, then folded while keeping the 2 models connected. I used the Renzuru technique of connected cranes to create this design.

Kawasaki-san is best known for his realistic Kawasaki Rose, created through an elegant twist-folding technique. He also developed Kawasaki’s Theorem, a fundamental principle describing when creases meeting at a single point can fold flat. His groundbreaking work in rigid origami has inspired generations of artists, mathematicians, designers, and folders.

You can also purchase a pack from us that contains a sheet of paper for each of the 19 classes. World Origami Days consists of 19 days of online origami workshops. This year, each featuring a model from Kawasaki-san’s remarkable body of work. This special series will celebrate his artistic designs, mathematical innovations, and lasting influence on the international origami community.
