Hi, my name is Sumiko Fong and I am a 21 year old, San Francisco, Japantown native. I am currently completing my fourth and final year of college at Sonoma State University where I am majoring in Communications and Media Studies with a concentration in Public Relations. I’ve lived in the Japantown area my entire life and have experienced many of the activities and events the area has to offer. Living in this neighborhood has provided me with the opportunity to enrich myself in various aspects of Japanese culture that I wouldn’t have been able to immerse myself in otherwise. Participating in numerous cultural events that take place in Japantown has been a highlight of my life. I have also enjoyed seeing how this neighborhood has evolved from my childhood through adolescence and into adulthood. What I love most about living here is being able to bring friends and family to the area over the years to experience some of my favorite Japantown activities and finding new things to have fun doing.
For the Japantown Community Benefit District I will be writing regular blog posts showcasing the various businesses and experiences throughout the Japantown area from my perspective. I’ll be writing in detail about what exactly these businesses have to offer to consumers. These blog posts will be focusing on the different aspects of Japantown businesses such as food, shopping, beauty and more! In addition to that I will also be providing content and commentary a few times a week for the various social media accounts that JCBD has. I am extremely excited for the opportunity to share my thoughts and experiences on all of the amazing things that can be seen and done in this astonishing neighborhood that has been a part of my life for over two decades.
