Celebrating 120 Years of
San Francisco’s Japantown
1906-2026

2026 marks a historic milestone: the 120th Anniversary of San Francisco’s Japantown in the Western Addition. Established in the wake of the 1906 Great Earthquake, our neighborhood has served as the cultural heart of the Japanese American community for over a century. This year, we celebrate the resilience of our community and pay special tribute to the Issei (first) and Nisei (second) generations whose strength preserved our history through decades of challenge.

To celebrate the 120th Anniversary of San Francisco, the Center (Japanese Cultural & Community Center of No. CA) will be highlighting various articles and information published 120 years ago on a monthly basis. Click here to view.

The Japanese Cultural & Community Center of No. CA and Japantown Community Benefit District are proud to present a community-wide calendar featuring educational, cultural, and historical events hosted by organizations across Japantown.
