Feb 5 - Feb 18 Josee, The Tiger, and The Fish @VIZ Cinema

College student Tsuneo meets Kumiko aka “Josee” who rides around in a baby buggy on her daily outings with her grandmother. Kumiko cannot walk due to a disability, but she is very smart, humorous, and has her own place in this world. Kumiko’s uniqueness draws Tsuneo closer to her. Isshin Inudo adapts a short story by author Seiko Tanabe into a feature film. Chizuru Ikewaki, starring as Kumiko, delicately reveals the woman inside of the awkward girl. Josee, The Tiger and The Fish is a masterpiece that has successfully captured the happiness of love and the dispair of not seeing eye to eye.

San Francisco's colorful Japanese quarter, centered at Post & Buchanan Streets, will burst into full bloom the weekends of April 10-11 and 17-18, when members of Northern California's Japanese American community gather to present their 43rd Annual Cherry Blossom Festival.  Anyone with a yen to experience a bit of Japan won't want to miss this wonderfully vivid and varied cultural feast which celebrates the rich heritage of Japanese Americans.  Music and dance performances, visual and martial arts exhibits and demonstrations, tea ceremonies, flower arranging demonstrations, a food bazaar, and an arts and crafts fair are among the many events awaiting festival-goers.  The celebration will come to an exciting climax on Sunday afternoon, April 18, when a spectacular Japanese-style parade will wend its way from City Hall to Japantown.

The public is invited to join in the festivities, and admission to most events is free.

A detailed schedule of events should be available by mid-March 2010.  Watch this space for updates or, for further information, visit www.nccbf.org
